sci-an launch
After a year of intense and dedicated work we are thrilled to publicly launch our service for use in the scientific community and beyond. We chose a compact, 2-hour hybrid format to introduce sci-an and highlight the people and institutions that inspired us and supported our work on this project.
The event is split into one hour of lightning talk contributions followed by a social get together to meet and mingle. The physical event will take part at the "Haus der Astronomie" in Heidelberg, right next to the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy. Presentations will be streamed and the social get together will take place live and via sci-an.
1 March | 16:00 - 18:00 CET

Veronique Holzen | TraMocee
Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting contact and travel restrictions, the world of academic conferencing was shaken and many conferences were switched to virtual or hybrid formats. These formats allow for huge reductions in greenhouse gas emissions; at the same time, hosting alternative conference formats creates new challenges and requires novel ideas and approaches. With the DBU-funded project TraMocee, we aim to address these challenges and explore the potential of the pandemic as a window of opportunity for more sustainable conferencing.

Dr. Elzbieta Piatkowska | MAX!mize
MAX!mize is the official start-up incubation program of the Max Planck Society. The program is organized by Max-Planck-Innovation and supports scientists who want to become entrepreneurs. They receive individual support for their start-up idea and learn and apply new skills to develop viable business models. At MAX!mize, we are convinced that entrepreneurship is the best way to maximize the impact of science.

Dr. Dr. Olya Vvedenskaya | Dragonfly Mental Health
There is a growing mental illness epidemic in higher education where graduate students have 8 times higher rates of severe depression and anxiety, far too often resulting in suicide. Our team of academic volunteers is combatting this epidemic by delivering evidence-based workshops, programs, and consulting to academic communities around the world. This, in combination with rigorous research and community building efforts, will change the world as we know it by supporting and sustaining the incredible minds and talent ready to make the world a better place.
